That's Shanghai takes a look at the best art exhibitions of the week:
GUCCI x Maurizio Cattelan: The Artist is Present

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan has partnered with Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, to bring a surreal collection of curated works to the Yuz Musem. Exploring how originality can be acheived through acts of repetition, the exhibition inspired by Marina Abromovic's 2010 live performance (as featured in the Jay Z music video for 'Picasso Baby' which, fun fact, revolves around a relatively interesting controversy that you should definitely look up) is runnning through to December.
Until Dec 16, RMB60, Yuz Museum.
Bodega Run

While you're at the Yuz, check out Tshcabalala Self's solo exhibition at their Project Space of Art, highlighting the Bodegas of New York City through paintings, sculptures and video. The family run corner stores featured in Self's show capture an aspect of the Black-American and Latinx community that has yet to be shown in a Chinese instution.
Until Dec 9, Yuz Museum.
Wang Newone & Elliot Dodd

You've got two more days to check out these two solo shows exploring the notion of "lure" and virtual identity. Some of the works are dark and immersive, transforming the gallery space in shades of cobalt blue, while others draw on popular imagery in a playful distortion of recognizable objects.
Until Oct 21, MadeIn Gallery.
Painting the Banal: Wu Yiming

Closing this weekend, Shanghai based Wu Yiming's work captures snapshots from every day life in soft strokes and loose figures. He emphasizes lived experience over the objects themselves, engaging with the spaces between being and nothingness.
Until Oct 21, ShanghArt Gallery.
Maya Kramer: Decoy

Closing on Thursday, Maya Kramer has a wide range of pieces on view at Capsule Gallery. From sculpture and graphic works to her latest immersive installation, the Shanghai based artist reveals her reflections on humanity, nature and the mechanical, with each room in the gallery taking on a different spatial and visual rhythm.
Until Oct 25, Capsule Gallery.
Mika Shimauchi Exhibition

The opening of this exhibit showcases works that are impressive, crude, dark and comical. They catalogue the artist's grappling with existential dread in a range of mediums that are worth a gander.
Until Nov 11, Shun Art Gallery, see event listing.
