On September 7, 2017, Sephora volunteers and specialists from prominent hospitals in China and overseas arrived in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture to introduce Operation Smile, a program that helps children suffering from cleft lips and palates.

In China, approximately one in every 600 babies are born with this form of facial disfigurment, which can be present challenges for talking or eating properly in the future as well. In some impoverished areas, surgeries to correct cleft lips and palates can cost an entire year of a family's income.

This event is the fifth collaboration between Sephora and Future Smile Charitable Foundation since 2015. During the visit to Ganzi, the 1,000th cleft lip and palate operation was successfully performed on one of the 75 patients who were accepted for surgery.

Each surgery is a chance for a better life for these children, and the domestic and international experts from various renowned hospitals volunteered to work for 10 or more hours a day to help these children.

The Sephora volunteers provided assistance to the doctors by coordinating and maintaining communication inside and outside the operating rooms, giving support and post-surgical care to the recovering patients,carrying out medical photogrammetry and much more.

Sephora believes that everyone should be able to feel as beautiful on the outside as they do on the inside, and the operations performed in Ganzi did just that. Let's all contribute to helping those young people with cleft lips and palates embrace their beauty and smile with confidence.
