That's Shanghai Food & Drink Awards

The biggest party of the year is finally upon us - if we do say so ourselves. Join us on Thursday for the 15th Annual That's Shanghai Food & Drink Awards that sees us honoring some of the best restaurants and bars, as voted by you! The event includes free-flow beer from Stella Artois, cider from Cider Republic, wine from Summergate, cocktails from teekanne and water from Fiji. There will also be a lucky draw with amazing prizes on offer, including dinners at Shanghai's top restaurants, from Jean Georges to Commune Social. Sep 15-16: Mark Normand

Mark Normand at Kung Fu Komedy club Shanghai

American comedian Mark Normand’s brand of self-deprecating humor has led him to open for the likes of Louis C.K. and Amy Schumer and perform on a slew of late night talk shows. Kung Fu Komedy brings him to Shanghai for the first time.

Sep 15: Unico Five Year Anniversary with Boddhi Satva

Unico Shanghai 5 Year Anniversary with Boddhi Satva

Unico rings in five years of holding court as Shanghai’s best Bund-side Latin bar, livehouse and dance club. They have a whole week of celebrations culminating in this Friday night show featuring Boddhi Satva, a DJ from the Central African Republic who deals in ‘ancestral soul,’ a mix of Afro house and traditional music from around the African continent.

Time Tarracho (live) / SIMPIG (live) / Blaise Deville / Mozka at All Club Shanghai

All hosts this showcase of Swiss electronic artists, including Time Tarracho delivering Latin and Portuguese-inspired beats, juke and footwork from duo Simpig, funk and reggae from DJ Blaise Deville (who used to be based in Shanghai) and VJ Moska, who specializes in optical illusion-based visuals.

Jean Nouvel and Tan Dun: Sources, Forms and Changes at Shanghai Design Center

The opening ceremony of the Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment 2017 gathers two influential artists: the prominent French architect Jean Nouvel, 2008 Pritzker Award winner, and the outstanding Chinese composer Tan Dun. Beyond the subtle relationship between music and architecture, both draw their inspiration from the city and its relationship with nature. They will share their ideas about the changes undergone by the cities during the last thirty years in China and other parts of the world, and also theorize about the future.

Sep 16: Shanghai SIPG vs Shanghai Greenland Shenhua

Shanghai SIPG vs Shanghai Greenland Shenhua

It's that time again where the city is split into two as bragging rights between Shanghai SIPG and Shanghai Greenland Shenhua is up for grabs once again. SIPG have been on a nice little run of late as opposed to Shenhua, who haven't won since the end of July, but with SIPG having a tough away game against Guangzhou Evergrande on Tuesday in the Champions League, Shenhua will be looking to capitalize on their rival's midweek exertion.

Sep 16: The Good Girl of Chinatown & Memoir Writing Workshop

The Good Girl of Chinatown & Memoir Writing Workshop

On Saturday, Jenevieve Chang holds a memoir writing workshop followed by a discussion of her own memoir, which chronicles her life coming from a conservative Chinese-Australian family to working as a Shanghai showgirl at the infamous "Chinatown" vaudeville, variety and burlesque club. Chang will be on hand to give tips on mining life experiences for your own memoir in the workshop and discussing her experiences during the pre-Expo years at the talk. The events can either be enjoyed together or individually.

Wisdy at Celia Shanghai

Originally from Bali, Wisdy holds a residency at a club called Jenja in Seminyak and has shared the stage with the likes of Sasha and Joris Voorn. Lina K and Emil Chang provide support for his performance of forward-thinking techno at Celia. Cover price includes a Jager shot.

Sep 16-17: Concrete & Grass

Concrete and Grass Fesitval Shanghai

This annual fall music festival from Split Works brings together over 60 Chinese and international artists from nearly every imaginable genre, plus activities and underground artwork. Headliners this year include Japanese rockers Radwimps, Thurston Moore Group, NYC dream pop/rock band DIIV, Princess Nokia, Jai Wolf, and lots more, plus a strong line-up of Chinese and local acts like Carsick Cars and Tzusing.

A dark day in the history of the city, this tour promises to be both insightful and educational.
