After much speculation and cryptic WeChat posting, the location and opening night line-up for All, a new club from former Shelter co-manager Gaz Williams, has been announced.
Williams, who curated much of The Shelter's music policy during the nine years of its existence, announced last month that he and other members of the Shanghai nightlife community were opening this new venture sometime in June.
Laughton's visuals at Wetware Music Festival
Visual artist and VJ Kim Laughton, who created many of the posters for Shelter club nights and often VJ’d there, designed the new club's layout. Laughton was also behind the insane visuals for one of the stages at Wetware Music Festival in Beijing earlier this month: a freewheeling backdrop depicting a surreal island where tents glow in the dark and giant apples and bananas appear from the sky. Based on his past work, it's safe to assume that All's décor will be a far cry from Shelter’s stark black interior.
All is located in a second-floor space at the corner of Xiangyang Bei Lu and Changle Lu, very close to Kartel and a five-minute walk from the messy nightlife stretch that is Donghu Lu.
Yen Tech's debut album from SVBKVLT
For tonight's opening party, the line-up features a handful of Shelter regulars and artists affiliated with Williams' record label, SVBKVLT. Korean-American rapper and performance artist Yen Tech will perform live, along with DJ sets from techno/EBM producer Tzusing, Beijing underground favorite Shackup, and Howell (aka Williams himself). Entry is RMB60. This will be big.
June 2, 10pm, RMB60. All, 2F, 17 Xiangyang Bei Lu, by Changle Lu 襄阳北路17号2楼, 近长乐路.
