Fallen Leaves Not to be Swept Off Shanghai Streets

Seen a lot of leaves lying around? Well, don't touch them!

District authority has ordered street cleaners to stop sweeping up the fallen folliage and just literally leave them be. The request has been made in order to preserve the seasonal scenery until mid-December.

Ruled to the former French Concession, roads told to keep their colors include Wukang, Hunan, Yongfu, Yuqing and Yueyang. But street cleaners don’t get too excited, the leaves will have to be picked up once December 16 hits.

All the preserved streets are located within the historic scenic protection zone, a section of the city where many historic buildings, villas and celebrities' former residences are located.

A photo competition will also be held through the end of 2016, where the public is encouraged to snap shots of the pretty streets. This autumn tradition is part of the district’s Hengfu Art Season, which kicks off this week.
