A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Sun Xun: Prediction Laboratory
Yuz Museums hosts the Fujian born artist knownfor blurring the lines between drawing, painting, animation and installation, incorporate disparate techniques from traditional Chinese ink to woodcuts (see cover image). Project Laboratory features a site-specific painting, 12 animated films and taxonomies inspired by those found in natural history museum.

2. Jing'an International Sculpture Project
It's the last weekend to catch the Jing'an International Sculpture Project that features contributions from 24 international artists to Jing’an Sculpture Park including the acclaimed homegrown group MadeIn that complement the park’s existing favorites like Arne Qinze’s Red Beacon (pictured above).

3. Wany Yi: Yi Ri Guang
Taking its name from Hang Yu’s verse that refers to a change of time during one day or as part of the eternal cycle of time, Shanghai born artist Wang Yi reinterprets the classical gaze within painting by deliberately overlaying contastic colors to create dynamic works.

4. Ann Niu: Microcosm
Paying homage to the spiritual and esoteric qualities given to stones throughout Chinese tradition, Ann Niu uses them as a metaphor to explore existence. Landscapes are drawn on their surfaces to create eye popping works.

5. Guo Peng: Essentially Empty Essentially Full
The Sichuan born artist presents over a decade of his works that range from experiments with holepunched adaptions of public domain images to his sparse work with empty photographic paper.

6. Yin Zhaoyang: New Works
Out at the Bund, Matthew Liu Fine Arts presents the latest works from the Beijing-based contemporary artist known for his expressive, melancholic take on landscape. A stalwart within the mid-1990s Youth Cruelty movement in Chinese contemporary art known for their realistic portraitures, Yin continues his interest in abscrapt and conceptual landscape works with many of these New Works inspired by several visits to Songshan Mountains.
