Nov 5-Dec 11: ACT Shanghai International Theatre Festival

This massive theatre festival celebrates its 12th edition with award winning shows from across the world like Polish mime maestro’s Trygve Wakenshaw’s Kraken (Nov 14-15, pictured above) and Hong Kong’s groundbreaking physical theatre show Titus Andronicus 2.0 (Nov 18-20).

Nov 12-Mar 12: Shanghai Biennale

Power Station of Art hosts the 11th edition of this massive contemporary art fair that will emphasize “the possibilities of South-South dialogue within the current scenario of a highly connected world.” The acclaimed Dehli-based Raqs Media Collective (pictured above) curates presenting a destination for many different kinds of exploration and investigation that will also serve as a launching pad for new visions, ideas and artists.

Nov 15: Deepwater Horizon

Nov 15: Deepwater Horizon

Mark Wahlberg and Dylan O’Brien star as two crew members on the oil rig Deepwater Horizon that suffered a massive blowout and a pair of violent explosions in 2010. Described as the US’ worst ever oil spill, the incident resulted in the deaths of eleven workers and the release of tens of millions of gallons of petrolium into the Gulf of Mexio. Directed by Peter Berg, the film has already grossed over USD100 million worldwide since its late September release.

MAYA welcomes Austin Hu for this five course dinner paired with six great Spanish wines from Le Sommelier International. Guests will guess the region, grap and year of the wines with prizes up for grabs.

Nov 15-16: Paul Taylor Dance Company

As one of the first touring companies of American modern dance, the Paul Taylor Dance Company has cast a wide influence on the artform. For the Shanghai stop of their China tour, they’ll perform selections from 1980’s Sacre Du Printemps, The Rehearsal, 2002’s Promethean Fire and 2008’s Beloved Renegade.

Nov 15-20: Dressed Up Final Season

Le Royal Méridien Shanghai’s gastronomic journey series continues with Spanish chef Quim Casellas Grassot of the Michelin-star family restaurant Casmar, teaming with Chef Asu Liang, the French chef of Allure Restaurant. Together, they present authentic French delicacies that will tingle all the senses. Dinner menu sets available for RMB388 from November 15-20. November 18 gala dinner is RMB428 per person and November 20 brunch is available for RMB528. VIP packages available starting from RMB1,219.

Nov 16: UI/UX Design Meetup

The Market hosts this UI/UX Design Meetup for creative professionals, featuring talks from Dr. Jens Mühlstedt on science fiction interfaces, Junfei Pan on introducing interaction design in the context of a central government owned enterprise. The night will also include a lightning talk where attendees can share their personal projects and ideas for community input. On-stage recruitment opportunities available for those looking for designers.

25 years ago, three newly graduated friends wanted to somehow parlay their interest in design, science, comedy, drumming and music into careers. Shockingly, they’ve succeeded with this hit show that has infiltrated the world’s biggest stages and Arrested Development. Famed dancer Zhang Dandan established The Guangzhou Ballet in 1994 where it remains one of the country’s most acclaimed groups They present their interpretation of the classic tale of Giselle at the recently opened Shanghai International Dance Center.

Nov 17-20: Reservoir Dogs

Nov 11-20: Reservoir Dogs

While they may have changed their name from Urban Aphrodite to DreamWeaver, the popular theater company are up to their old tricks, bringing another film classic to the stage. After last year's adaptations of The Princess Bride and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, they kick off their new season by bringing to life Quentin Tarantino's iconic first film success. Nov 18: I Am Not Madame Bovary

After ruling the holiday box office last winter starring in Mr. Six, Feng Xiogang directs his first film in three years. Megastar Fan Bingbing has won awards at film festivals across the world starring as a village woman taking on the Chinese legal system after she is swindled by her ex-husband. The film was screened this year at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Nov 18: An Evening with Kapa Haka

Pudong Shangri-La hosts this evening celebrating traditional New Zealand Māori culture. Top high school kappa haka groups from the Rotorua Boys’ High School and Rotorua Girls’ High School will perform followed by a sumptuous buffet of New Zealand classics including steamed New Zealand mussels, slow cooked New Zealand venison ribs, New Zealand wines and much more.

Revered for his euphoric DJ sets, van Buuren indulges his artistic side by bringing his Armin Only Embrace tour, which focuses on his last studio album, the genre smashing Embrace. With a jazz saxophonist as a father and an uncle who sang in the salsa group Fania All-Stars, Louie Vegas has added his own immense chapter to the family’s musical heritage. A DJ at AGE 13, Vega held residencies at New York’s hottest spots before teaming up with Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez in the early 1990s to form the legendary remix team, Masters at Work.

The Hamburg-raised DJ is a three-time DJ Awards winner for Best Producer and Best Deep House DJ. His remix of Noir & Hayze’s ‘Around’ was dubbed remix of the year by Resident Advisor and he held down two Ibiza residencies this summer thanks to a sound that’s been described as “house music, but with deep, ultra funky basslines, euphoric melodies and emotionally charged vocals.”

Nov 18-19: Vlad Caamaño

Despite his Russian sounding first name, Caamaño has become one of New York’s hottest stand-ups, mining laughs from his upbringing in an immigrant Dominican family making it work in the Big Apple. Mixing urban grit and intellect, Caamaño was named on Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch list this year, and NBC recently ordered a pilot for a sitcom based on Caamaño’s real-life family dynamic. Nov 18-20: Festhea

The second edition of the French theater festival has a theme about how life is growing up as a woman. There will be two plays coming from France as part of the six show programme. There will also be three free workshops for kids and adults, food and drink pop-ups, a photobooth and a book signing from La Ptite Lu. Part of the proceeds go to More Than Aware.

Rémi Mazourine leads this Shanghai Flaneur walking tour that traces the neighborhoods that the famed English science fiction novelist grew up in that inspired his semi-autobiographical classic, Empire of the Sun, famously adapted to film by Stephen Spielberg.

Known for their awesome music and design projects, Ivan Belcic and Kaine Lyu reveals their latest project - the Chubby Oni Sausage Co. They’ll be serving up their handmade sausages like the Spicy Iguana Pork Sausage, BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Beef Sausage, and Sweet Chicken and Apple Sausage for RMB50 each  on Shanghai Tattoo’s outdoor rooftop terrace with plenty of drinks available. The movie Sausage Party will be screened while DJ Twerk Daddy spins metal, hip hop and rock.
