A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Yannick Barman: Stalker
Inspired by the iconic Soviet director Tarkovsky, Swiss artist and musician Yannick Barman will perform his work Stalker. Images taken from past tours of Europe, Russia and Asia will be screened set to Barman’s live music mix of distorted trumpets and computerized sounds.

2. Emerging Curators Project
The results of the third edition of this Power Station of Art (pictured above) organized contest for young Chinese artists are in and the three winning programs will open this weekend. On the fifth floor of the Power Station of Art is Axis Art Project’s Street Fighter inspired Amoy Meat Factory, as well as the interactive database Articulations Summit by Liu Yihong, Wang Yan and Ou I-Chun. At the Swatch Art Peace Hotel is Mao Chenyu, Zhou Jing and Fen Lei’s Good Grain Narrative that explores the relationship between the rural and urban.

3. Eko Nugroho: UH - OH UH - OH UH - OH
Arario Gallery hosts this exhibition from the Indonesian artist known for his colorful works spanning media from sculpture to mural paintings. While there are elements of Japanese manga and some sci-fi influences, Eko Nugroho’s works explore the good, bad and exciting of post-independence Indonesia.

4. Li Hongbo and Shi Ningfang: Truth
Famed Beijing sculptor Li Hongbo presents a series of busts as well as paper works in this exhibition that also includes contributions from Shi Ningfang, whose works play with distortion “between what we see and what really constitutes the artwork.”

5. Sun Jing: Observer on the Peak
The Shanghai-based Hainan-born artist brings her colorful works to FQ Projects mixing a child-like sensibility with an exhibition exploring nature.

6. Geng Jianyi: Stubborn Image
Since co-founding one of China’s first conceptual art collectives, Pond Society, in 1986, Geng’s impact on the country’s avant garde scene has been pronounced. Despite his high esteem, the 50-year-old remains productive, taking over OCT Contemporary Art Terminal with a solo exhibition, mixing abstract videos (see cover image) with a remade labyrinthesque space.
