July 4-15: Music in the Summer Air (MISA)
For six years, Music in the Summer Air (MISA) has been one of Shanghai’s most eclectic festivals, bridging contemporary classical with other mediums. With a theme of The Swinging Sixties, MISA 7 boasts a stacked and diverse lineup featuring a modern take on The Dark Side of the Moon, a Warholian tribute from the founder of Galaxie 500, the world premiere of a new piece by award-winning Turkish pianist Fazil Say and several performances by he world renowned New York Philharmonic, who serves as this year's MISA orchestra-in-residence. July 7-8: Earsnail and Future Gaze
New Beijing super-duo of White +'s Wang Xu and Da Bang's Yan Shuai does double duty in Shanghai with support from hometown heroes Future Gaze (pictured above). On Thursday, take over The Shelter for the latest edition of the experimental Voltage Divider series with support from Soundspade and XC3N. Dogma Lab provides visuals and other interactive works to complement the live electronics. The next night, they'll be they'll be headlining an awesome local rock showcase that features new Maybe Mars signees Dream Can, Walking XL and Mercy and Sorry with art installations by Quick Massage all over MAO Livehouse. July 8: Yundi
Since becoming the first Chinese winner of the Chopin International Competition at 18, Yundi’s stardom has spread. While he routinely performs on the world’s most prestigious stages, the pianist has frequently embarked on extensive national tours, bringing classical music to China’s second- and third-tier cities. His latest Shanghai show features an all-Chopin programme.

July 8: Lu1 x Cee
This hip hop super duo pairs young upstart Lu1, who won numerous awards for his debut disc last year, with Shanghai OG Cee, who won the Iron Mic as a teen, released a record with Sony and was the most hardcore member of Shanghai icons Bamboo. The two kick off their national tour at On Stage celebrating their just-released collaborative disc, Farewell on a Midnight Train - a jazz and soulful disc perfect for fans of 90s hip hop like Souls of Mischief and early-The Roots.

July 8-9: Ton Koopman & Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra
The organist and harpischordist founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1979 and has won Gramophones for leading one of the world’s finest ensembles using period instruments.

July 9: Hang on the Box
China's first all-female punk band formed way back in 1998 and frontwoman Gia Wang has been furiously blazing paths since. The group has scored a cover on Newsweek, secured a Japanese record deal and were possibly the first Mainland group to tour America (way back in 2003). While they've largely been dormant since their last full-length album in 2007, Hang on the Box are back with a new lineup made of Mainland music vets and the same furious attitude of Gia Wang. Before they head into the studio to record their next album, they will be playing their first show in Shanghai in over a decade. Shanghai stalwarts Round Eye, Goushen and Banana Monkey open. Hyukoh
The member of the South Korean indie band Highgrnd return to the Mainland where he spent most of his youth living in Jilin, Shenyang and Beijing. While he typically writes songs in Korean and English, expect him to unleash a couple of Chinese gems as well.

Li Ronghao
The pop star serenades Shanghai with what promises to be a packed night at Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Hangzhou psych-rockers Dolphy Kick Bebop joins hometown heroes Not in Catalog, Mirrors and Opposite Clock for a night celebrating the weirder side of rock from post-rock to no wave.

Shanghai’s burgeoning metal scene takes over Inferno for a showcase featuring scene stalwarts Think Ray, Fighting Back, The Machinery of Other Skeletons and Blood of Life.
