Blake Mycoskie, the founder of the shoe brand TOMS, will be in Shanghai to give a talk next Wednesday.
The talk, which will be held at Café Sambal, comes ahead of the launch of the Chinese edition of his new book, Start Something That Matters.
Mycoskie, a businessman and entrepreneur, originally worked in the music and television industries. While on holiday in Argentina in 2006, he met an American woman who was part of an organization that provided shoes for under-privileged children. Inspired by their work, Mycoskie went on to found Shoes For Better Tomorrows, which was eventually shortened to TOMS. He created a ‘one for one’ business model: for every pair of shoes they sold, another would be donated. By 2013, TOMS had donated more than ten million pairs of shoes.
Start Something That Matters was first published in 2011. In his book, Mycoskie writes of the positive effects of social entrepreneurship and encourages other companies to donate more of their profits to charitable causes.
Wed April 6, 7:30pm. Café Sambal, see event listing here. Start Something That Matters is available on Amazon.
