A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Zhu Jia: Critical Pervasion
The Beijing-born artist shows off his latest video art pieces and photographic works. Zhu’s been lauded for years for his experimental conceptual style.

2. Sebastião Salgado - Genesis The iconic photojournalist’s massive show features 245 original works. Over eight years, Salgado traveled through 32 different countries, as far south as Antarctica where he documented chinstrap penguins, and as far north as Siberia, where he trekked alongside the indigenous Nenet people.

3. Zhang Guangyu: Master of Chinese Modernism
The Long Museum West Bund continues their Masters of Chinese Modernism series with the Wuxi artist. After moving to Shanghai in 1918 to study, Zhang designed advertising for the likes of the British American Tobacco Company and covers for Shanghai Cartoons and other manhua publications. He’s best known for his Journey to the West cartoon series that was a searing anti-Guomindang series released in 1945.

4. Tango: I Have A Dream
B1 Art Space in The Jing An Kerry Center hosts this solo exhibition of the Shanghainese artists. A graudate from the School of Mathematics at Jiaotong University, Tango first worked in advertising before finding his inner voice with his worktime sketches. His works are whimsical and irreverent slices of life. He returns to Shanghai after exhibiting in Paris earlier this year.

5. Memorieslab presents Ellen von Unwerth's BlackOut
The acclaimed photographer and director brings this exhibition of commissioned black and white shots taken by the one and only IMAGO Photour Camera. This exhibition comes to Asia for the first time showcasing the camera’s life size full body portraits. Not only will Unwerth’s works be shown, but visitors can book a spot to have a life-size photo taken during Memorieslab’s world tour.

6. Leng Hong
The Shanghai born artist was the youngest painter admitted into the China National Academy of Painting after the Cultural Revolution. Immersed in traditional Chinese painting, Leng moved to France and Canada in 1986 where his creations synthesized new Western influences with his traditional style. He’s since exhibited around the world and splits his time between Montreal and Shanghai. This exhibition illustrates Leng’s favorite themes of landscape, nature, still life and figures from classical Chinese poetry.
