The December issue of That's Shanghai is out now – paper-and-ink-form citywide, digital pdf-form right here or in your browser here.
And so another year is drawing to an end – and if you have lived here as long as I have (I’m going six years now) you know that 12 months in China can feel like the equivalent of seven years elsewhere on earth. The country is drawn to change, which it embraces perhaps faster than any other place. This is a nation prone to constant shifts. Such a phenomenon makes any attempt to put together a review of the year a daunting feat. Where does one start? We've decided to focus on what you could call miscellanea, or the lighter side of things. And so on page 52, you’ll find our very own take on 2015 in the realms of tech, arts, fashion and online trends.
In the City section, I make an attempt at getting into the business of mindfulness (one of the year’s hottest fads, coincidentally) and try to understand whether we really need tools and classes to find inner happiness (page 16).
In Life & Style, we’ve put together the ultimate Christmas gift guide to inspire your holiday shopping (page 26), while for a roundup of the top Yuletide happenings of the season, check our Events special on page 99. Among the many options, I’d recommend you put our very own That’s Shanghai Yongkang Lu Christmas Street Party as a must-attend in your diary (more on that here). It’s Christmas (almost). It’s Yongkang. It’s ten drinks for RMB200. What else do you need?
For the latest on Arts and an exclusive interview with pop star Adam Lambert, check page 40 and 42 respectively. There are lots of indie gigs, theater and comedy happenings coming up this month, so read carefully.
Last but not least, our Eat & Drink section is packed full with the usual food porn and a taste-tastic festive feature by food queen Betty Richardson (page 66), who went and met with some of Shanghai’s most talented cooks and restaurant owners to ask about their favorite Christmas recipe. Heartwarming stuff, we tell you.
So, from everyone here at That’s Shanghai, happy holidays folks!
