Good carbs and bad carbs. That's a zeitgeisty topic amongst health circles these days isn't it? But more importantly, bagels and cinnabagels. Starting this Friday, you can get the latter at Boom Boom Bagels, Sumerian, and Sherpa's for the promotional price of RMB15 (October 30 only, regular price RMB30).
Softer, larger and considerably more bun-like than their regular counterparts, Boom Boom's cinnabagels are like bagels on yeast steroids. They're sticky and cinnamony on the outside, most of them with a cinnamon swirl streaked throughout.
As an amateur baker, yours truly can tell you that getting a uniform streak of cinnamon is devilishly tricky – even more so with notoriously unruly 'free form' bakes.
A seemingly natural accompaniment to hot coffee, cinnabagels are also sweeter than your standard bagel, and in our opinion, lend themselves to being toasted. Boom Boom suggests you then slather them with their two cinnabagel-issue spreads: frosting-esque vanilla or salted caramel cream cheese. Technically you could do both, but keep the defibrillators on hand just in case.
