A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Jeffrey Lewis: Pop Up Art Show

The New York based comic artists and musician is in town to perform at this weekend’s Booshkabaash Music Festival and will also hold a pop-up art show at Uptown Records in collaboration with Basement 6 and idle beats. Heavily inspired by his life as a musician, Lewis’ comics and art will be on display. At 6pm, he will perform an acoustic set followed by a Q&A with Sacco.

2. Shanghai Sacred
Award winning British photographer and anthropologist Liz Hingley examines dislocation and relocation in Shanghai as part of an ongoing research project at Fudan University. The show documents “how sacredness continues to be engineered in today’s Shanghai.”

3. Neo-Perception
This group exhibition brings together 24 emerging young female artists from China that explore’s women’s identity. Featured artists include Zhou Hongbin (pictured above) Gao Shan, He Xiaochun, Wu Chao, Pei Li and Liu Qianyi with works spanning a range of mediums.

4. Rain Room
Budi Tek’s Yuz Museum rang in its first birthday this summer and is entering its second year with big plans. They’re hosting the Asian premiere of Random International’s acclaimed Rain Room installation, which had previously thrilled crowds in London and New York City. The site-specific installation is 150 square meters and is a large-scale environment of perpetually falling water that ceases to pour wherever a person walks. There will be extended viewing hours and a ‘view only’ queue to ensure everyone can experience the spectacle in person for RMB60. It's RMB150 if you want to walk through with RMB260 package deals for two or RMB360 for three. In addition, the museum hosts the solo exhibition Twin Tracks, celebrating respected contemporary artist Yang Fudong until November 15.

5. Water
With such an open-ended theme, this exhibition features such talented artists as Chai Yiming (above), Zhang Moliu and more. Expect to see work in a variety of mediums from water color to sand.

6. Ying Yefu: So You Look Like You Got What It Takes II
The Xi’an artist follows up last summer’s successful exhibition with a new series of gongbi ink paintings focusing on kungfu and wuxia.
