Single? Celebrate 11/11 by Joining this Race Around Guangzhou

Singles Day: we all know it as the world’s biggest online shopping day, fueled by huge discounts on China’s leading e-commerce sites (lookin’ at you, Taobao) and an ever-growing demand for material goods.

But while retail therapy may be a great way to get over a breakup, Singles Day was originally established by Nanjing University students in the early 90s as a way of celebrating being single, and had little to do with shopping.

So instead of sitting alone, slumped over your laptop or mobile this 11/11, why not strut your hot, single self over to the Singles Day Race organized by Global Friendship in Guangzhou and make it a day to remember?

Here’s what to expect: when you arrive at Zhujiang New Town on Saturday afternoon, you’ll be randomly placed in a team of 4-6 members of different nationalities and genders. All teams will then compete with each other in various challenges at 11 checkpoints around Guangzhou. Challenges may include everything from fitness and exotic dance contests to history-related trivia games and more.

A number of bars and restaurants will be standing by to offer refreshments as teams battle it out to complete the course first and win!

In addition to having a shot at taking home the first prize valued at RMB1,200, you’ll also have an opportunity to break out of your current clique and meet some cool individuals from around the world – including, perhaps, that future special someone…

The evening will conclude with a dinner (location to be revealed at the end of the race) and an after party, where you can mingle with other participants. See the detailed schedule below:

12.30–2pm: Opening lunch at The Brew ZJNT and beer pong challenge to win free Tiger Beer

2-6pm: Singles Day Race around 11 checkpoints with challenges related to music, dance, fitness, cycling and history knowledge

6pm-onwards: Dinner and after party (location to be revealed after the race)
