Keeping in tune with yesterday's "Girl riding Shanghai Metro in ludicrously revealing panties," a group of activists in Wuhan, Hubei bore abs flaunted thighs aboard the city's subway - but, this time, for a good cause.
There are probably more direct ways to promote AIDS awareness, but not as many that will go viral online. Good play, activists.
Nearly 500,000 people have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS since China's first case in 1985, with some 154,000 deaths - but that only counts the cases that have been diagnosed, and some estimate that as many as 810,000 people are currently living with the virus in China.
AIDS in China is caused by all of the typical factors (unprotected sex, shared needles, etc.) but there were also several AIDS crises in the country that were uniquely Chinese. These typically related to rural blood-for-cash programs around the turn of the millennium that very severely botched blood donation schemes. For more on China's past issues with AIDS, we recommend The Blood of Yingzhou District, a 2006 documentary.
