"The Day of the Dead was already celebrated in pre-Hispanic Mexico. However, with the arrival of the first European citizens to Mexico, the commemoration was combined with the Catholic festivity of 'All Souls Day'," Consul General Adem explained, emphasizing the rich historical roots of this beloved Mexican tradition.

The most cherished aspect of this celebration is the creation of the "altar," where families pay tribute to their departed loved ones. The Consular team, along with the support of the local Mexican community, erected an awe-inspiring altar at the entrance of the venue, honoring this cherished Mexican tradition. Consul General Adem invited all attendees to explore the altar, which was adorned with an array of traditional elements characteristic of the altar of the dead, including copal or incense, water, salt, candles, paper cuttings, bread of the dead, religious elements, as well as the favorite food and beverages of the departed.

Consul General Adem also highlighted the significance of cempasúchil flowers, which guide the path of the deceased, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of the celebration.

In a touching gesture, the altar was dedicated to four prominent Mexicans who passed away in 2023. These individuals made remarkable contributions to Mexican culture and were dearly remembered by many:

  • Xavier López Chabelo, a beloved comedian and children's actor who left an indelible mark on generations.

  • Ignacio López Tarso, a distinguished actor who played a pivotal role in the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.

  • Ricardo Rocha, an outstanding radio and television journalist known for his profound contributions to Mexican media.

  • Manuel Ojeda, the versatile Mexican actor who captivated audiences with his portrayal of Porfirio Díaz and other iconic roles.
