New Bar: Jing A @4Corners

“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.” (Revelation 7:1)

We have no idea whether 4corners drew inspiration from the Old Testament when choosing a name, chances are it didn’t (it’s more likely to have come from Isaiah 11:12: “And gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth,” knowing the wild exile crowd who party there), but in keeping with the passage above, we can testify to it being among the city’s better places to seek shelter during a stormy night: it does a fu*king excellent job of blocking the wind, is totally water tight, and as of this month has a newly refurbished backroom bar, selling 쑴A beer. Amen to that.

Six different variations of the stuff – from the Mandarin Summer Wheat (tastes great in winter, too) to the deliciously pale and malty Flying Fist IPA. On tap. All year round. It’s probably also worth mentioning that the backroom has a handsome working fireplace, “period features” (there’s lots of big wooden beams) and ample space for a dance floor – when the need arises (after midnight, usually).

So to recap: Gulou’s very best hangout is now serving a selection of the city’s very best craft beer. Oh, Happy Day.
