One family in Beijing recently had a stomach-churning fast food mishap, when a fried chicken wing with feathers still attached was included in their takeout order.

According to People’s Daily, a woman, surnamed Zhou, ordered McDonald’s takeout on April 21 for her young daughter. The child had already scarfed down three of the chicken wings and had taken a bite of her last piece, when the mom spotted the withered feathers sticking out of the crispy coating.

The woman paid a visit to McDonald’s Guangshun Bei branch, where she had ordered her waimai from, to tell them she’s ‘not lovin’ it.’

The store offered to pay a remittance of RMB300 either in McDonald’s coupons or cash, but the woman refused and reported the apparent health code violation to authorities. McDonald’s has responded by launching their own investigation into the matter.

Some netizens on Weibo were unsurprisingly grossed out by the debacle. “How horrifying and disgusting. Could it be that the workers frying the chicken didn’t even look?” posted one user taken aback by the fast food blunder.

Others chimed in too, noting that similar problems have occurred at other fast food chains in the PRC, with one user pointing out, “I’ve also encountered this, at the time I almost died of disgust. However, it was KFC instead of McDonald’s.”

However, there is a silver lining in this ordeal, as we can rest assured McDonald’s is, in fact, using real chicken. “What are they reporting? Eating a chicken feather? They ought to thank [McDonald’s] for serving something not fake…”
