Expect to Pay Highway Tolls Nationwide During Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival holiday officially starts tomorrow, but before you get all excited about your weekend getaway, keep this in mind: highways during the holiday will not be toll-free.

According to a CCTV report, China's Ministry of Transport has announced that during the upcoming holiday, which runs from September 22 to 24, toll fees will still be collected on all highways across the country.

But on a positive note, the toll-free policy will be implemented during the National Day holiday from 12am on October 1 through to 12pm on October 7.

If you think drivers in Shenzhen are concerned about the toll policy, think again.

The Shenzhen Committee of Transport projects that congestion will begin this afternoon, with the Changan-Humen section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen highway as well as its Humen-Weiyuan section, among others, expecting peak traffic at around 3.30pm today.

Meanwhile, airports, coach bus stations and customs in Shenzhen will also see a significant increase of passengers, a get-out-of-town rush likely to peak at around 7pm today.

In the wake of the destructive Typhoon Mangkhut, many roads in Shenzhen are still under repair, and as a result, major commercial areas in the city, such as the Dongmen Pedestrian Street, Huaqiangbei and Coastal City, are expected to see bigger crowds than usual.

To prevent Shenzhen's transportation network from getting overly congested, commuters are advised to avoid traveling during peak hours, and to commute by means of public transportation from 6pm today until the end of the holiday.
