Typhoon Mangkhut has arrived in South China, bringing with it crashing waves, strong winds and an ominous gray sky. In Shenzhen, at Dameisha, storm swell has completely flooded the beach and buildings located near the shoreline, including at least one five-star hotel.
That's PRD Editor-in-Chief Matt Bossons, who is currently at Dameisha Beach, said of the weather conditions “Visibility at the beach is extremely limited due to rain and powerful winds. The water level at Dameisha has risen over 10 feet since 9am this morning and the flooding is affecting buildings located near the beach.”

Guangdong is currently subject to the most extensive list of typhoon warnings in the province’s history. As of 9.40am this morning, red warnings in the province had increased from nine to 41, most of which are located along the southern coast of Guangdong, as reported by Southern Metropolis Daily.
As reported yesterday, schools across Guangdong are closed until Tuesday, September 18, in light of the storm.
Shenzhen Metro has announced that all lines in the city have shut from noon today as heavy winds and rain slam the city.
Metro workers in Shenzhen spent this morning combatting flooding to the underground system. As the weather has worsened throughout the day, officials have been forced to shut all lines.
As of 2.40pm today (September 16), no time and/or date for the reopening of Shenzhen’s subway network has been given. Commuters are advised to check the latest operation information on Shenzhen Metro’s Weibo, WeChat or on their official app.
In Guangzhou, several stations along metro lines 4, 5, 6 and 14 have been shuttered. At 1.17pm today, the Guangzhou Public Security Department announced on Weibo that a total of 17 stations had been closed on Guangzhou's subway system.

Major highways and bridges along coastal Guangdong have also been closed as the weather conditions deteriorate. Shantou Bay Bridge, Guangzhu West Expressway, Gaochu Expressway and Luoyang Expressway, among others, were closed to traffic today as high winds and heavy rains batter coastal Guangdong.
Flights out of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Zhanjiang airports have been suspended until 8am on September 17.
