You probably already packed away your winter coat and thought picnic weather was finally here – psych!

Beijing's meteorological authorities have issued a weather alert warning residents to prepare for extreme winds and cooler temperatures from Friday afternoon through Sunday.

The capital is expected to face prolonged gales, with gusts reaching up to 41.4 meters per second on the outskirts of the city.

A powerful cold vortex moving southeast from Mongolia is predicted to cause the daily high temperature in Beijing to plummet from approximately 27°C on Friday to 14°C on Saturday – 'cold with a chance of sandstorm' isn't our favorite weekend forecast...

Outdoor construction, school activities, and public events have been suspended – a number of food and cultural festivals have announced that they are postponing their events until next weekend.

People in Beijing have been advised by local authorities to “try to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel’” – seems like even opening a window this weekend, let alone venturing outside, might be a bad idea.
