Around 9am yesterday morning, residents in Pingshan New District, on the eastern outskirts of Shenzhen, were alarmed to see gigantic clouds of smoke billowing out from a nearby construction site. The source of the thick black smoke was an ongoing project at the intersection of Zhongshan Da Dao and Ping Lian Lu, where some new residential and business buildings are being built.

The fire is said to have started suddenly and it was put out fairly quickly as well. A reporter who arrived on the scene at 10am confirmed that the flames were no more and that workers were clearing up the area. It seems that after discovering the smoke, workers used fire extinguishers to put out the flames. During the process, no one appears to have been hurt. The cause of the fire, however, remains unknown for the time being.

Although the fire must have lasted for less than an hour, it was enough to give people in the area a scare. The huge clouds of smoke that emerged from the construction area were documented on camera. One video posted online shows people in a nearby neighborhood staring at the fire in horror. Photos also convey the frightening scale of the smoke clouds, which were visible from a considerable distance.
