And so it begins. Reports have emerged this week that police inspectors have begun their registration crackdown and have been visiting expat homes to check documents and passports, according to Shenzhen Daily.
That’s PRD staff contacted the Shekou Police Department earlier this week and were told that expats can still go and register at their local station (specifically, a 'registration police station,' known as a huzheng shi in Chinese).
As reported earlier this month, the current crackdown was announced at the beginning of June via letters posted around Shekou apartment complexes.
Aaron Cannon, one of our readers who volunteers at the Shekou Police Station, said at least three expatriates have been fined by Shekou police – one for RMB1,000 and two others for RMB500.
As can be seen from the pictures Cannon provided, police also checked expats on the street, leading him to suggest all foreigners should carry their passport, visa and registration documents with them at all times.
