A Beijing man has been sentenced to prison after forcing his girlfriend to have sex with his pet dog and raping her.
Global Times reported on this deeply disturbing story last Thursday, noting that Liu Yanan, a 32-year-old from Fengtai district, was sentenced to seven years for “forced crimes of compulsory indecency and rape.”
The court verdict was upheld on June 28, after an appeal by Liu.
In July 2018, Liu beat the victim, surnamed Chen, and forced her to have sex with his pet French bulldog prior to raping her.
According to China Judgments Online, Liu recorded the incident on his phone and used the evidence as blackmail, threatening to send it to Chen’s parents in case she were to tell the police.
The couple started dating in April 2018, and moved in together in June of that year. Liu reportedly became jealous after asking Chen about her ex-boyfriends.
He was detained by Beijing police on August 13, 2018.
The Chinese internet reacted strongly to the horrifying incident, with over 90% of Weibo users saying that a seven-year prison sentence was too light for Liu, according to an online survey.
Netizens proposed alternative ways to deal with this kind of behavior, with one user posting, “Chemical castration is appropriate for this kind of man. What do you think?” Another wrote, “Will he retaliate after getting out of prison? This kind of person is terrible.”
