With the whole Trump thing going on it seems like a particularly odd year to celebrate anything American without feeling slightly dirty. (And yes, we’re allowed to say that because some of us here at That’s are Americans.) But hey, what better way to drown your political sorrows than to binge on beer and American comfort food? And really, isn’t that what America’s Independence Day is all about?
July 4th @ Home Plate BBQ
Along with booze and fireworks, BBQ is pretty much essential when celebrating America’s Independence Day. Head over to Home Plate in Sanlitun for some good ol’ fashioned American BBQ. There will be plenty of drinks flowing as well as a concert by Stevie Mac and the Mac Daddies (at 9pm). Home Plate Sanyuanqiao will also have food and drinks in honor of the occasion. In true American fashion anyone wearing an American flag shirt will be given a free Jell-O shot. Because that’s how Americans roll.

Dog House 4th of July Kitchen Takeover
For another quintessentially American 4th of July experience, head over to Jing-A to partake in some beer drinking and hot dog eating. Thanks to Dog House, there will be four kinds of gourmet dogs to choose from: the Sichuan Dog, Philly Dog, Mexican Dog and Chili Dog. All will be going for RMB45, or you can go for a classic dog for RMB25. Either way, you'll want to harness your inner American and wash them down with some Jing-A brews.

July 3-4: BBQ & Puppy Presidential Election
American or otherwise, all are welcome at The Local for its Independence Day weekend celebrations. Kenn and the crew are putting on a two-day BBQ, meaning all the good old classics: burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, iced tea and lemonade with a side of “liberty” and “freedom.” Sweet, sweet freedom.
Plus: puppies. Considering it is a (human) presidential year in the US, there will be puppy presidential elections on both Jul 3 and 4. Open to all pups of all ages and origins, the election will be decided by public opinion. Prizes for the top dogs. Happy 4th of July indeed.

Q Mex is hosting a four-course dinner to mark the occasion. And there’s unlimited beer and wine – always a plus. Afterwards there will be an evening of dancing and festivities thanks to APSA. All proceeds will go toward empowering deserving American youth through global education.
