6 Places to Have Christmas Dinner

By Noelle Mateer, December 16, 2015

God rest ye merry gentlemen and women! The holidays are here, and just because many of our Beijing brethren are flying out of town (on a sleigh?) to celebrate the holidays elsewhere, doesn’t mean there aren’t totally worthy festive options right here. We’ve put together a list of the best Christmastime dinners. Drink and be merry.

Christmas Eve Dinner at Mosto

Mosto’s new chef Juan Mateus is leading the Nali Patio stalwart in bold, new directions. But that doesn’t mean he can’t do this within the confines of a perfectly festive Christmas meal. Mateus will be cooking a creative four-course meal including prawn bisque, foie gras, beef tenderloin… good stuff, you get the idea. Expect a marriage of innovation and tradition.

RMB398 per person, 6-10pm; Mosto, see listing for details

Christmas Eve Dinner at Migas

If you’d like to dine somewhere you can party afterwards, Migas is the spot for you. Enjoy a menu that includes Iberico pork tataki, slow-cooked eggs with crispy octopus, Barcelona-style seafood casserole and a Flaming Alaska to finish it all off. Oh, and foie gras – because that appears to be a requirement at all these Christmas dinner things.

Dec 24, RMB388 per person; Migas, see listing for details

Christmas Dinner at Modernista

More of a Gulou person? No problem. Modernista’s restaurant is arguably the best culinary happening to hit hutong weasels all year. Its five-course Christmas menu includes Icelandic scampi, quail, Christmas roast beef and, of course, foie gras.

Available Dec 24-26, Dec 31 and Jan 1; RMB320 per person (add RMB160 for free-flow prosecco); Modernista, see listing for details

Christmas Eve at Bistrot B

If all that still isn’t lavish enough for you, Bistrot B’s got you covered. They have it all: truffles, oysters, caviar, Atlantic halibut, black pepper duck, the requisite foie gras. Bistrot B does lavish like no-one else in town. Book in advance.

Dec 24, 5.30-10.30pm; CNY800 per person (RMB1100 with wine) plus 15 percent service charge; Bistrot B, Rosewood Beijing, see listing for details

Christmas Eve Dinner at Capital M

There are many reasons why Capital M should be top o’ your list this Christmas, but one stands above the rest: their turkey. We got to sample the bird, stuffed with kumquats and pistachios, but on Christmas eve, Capital M’s ballotine of Turkey will also be stuffed with Christmas ham. Be hungry.

Dec 24; RMB588 plus 10-percent service fee; Capital M, see listing for details

Christmas Dinner at GLB #45

Fancy a craft brew with your holiday meal? Great Leap Brewing’s #45 location is hosting a family-style dinner that includes porchetta, buttery rolls, cauliflower gratin, brussel sprouts, broccoli salad and a winter fruit crumble for dessert. The best part? Each person gets two drinks. Cheers.

Dec 24-25; RMB200 per person; email jimmy@greatleapbrewing.com to reserve a table; Great Leap Brewing #45, see listing for details
