March 20: Rock and Roll Karaoke
Not afraid of belting out tunes to a roomful of strangers? Join the crowd at Blu Bamboo for a round of good old-fashioned rock and roll karaoke; none of that newfangled Chinese KTV stuff. As a bonus, after 9pm the bar is offering a 15 percent discount on food, plus various specials on drinks.

March 21: 'A Taste of France' at L'Étoile
'Goût de France' is an annual event for chefs around the world to celebrate French cuisine. This year, L'Étoile restaurant is joining the fun. Their menu begins with foie gras ravioli and includes various other delicacies. In addition, five percent of sales will go to an international recycling NGO.

March 23: Book Exchange
Shenzhen's 'biggest expat library' will be open for two hours this Thursday evening. At the event, browse or borrow from 900 English and Chinese-language books, plus meet a host of fellow bibliophiles. The nonprofit event is entirely volunteer-run and open to the general public.

March 23: Defeated Sanity at B10 Live
German death metal band Defeated Sanity brings a 'brutal' sound to the stage this Thursday. If you liked their albums Passages into Deformity (2013) and Chapters of Repugnance (2010), you might also enjoy the guest appearance of Chinese metal group Obsoletenova.

March 24: Monkey Pilot at B10 Live
On Friday, groove to the feel-good vibes of Monkey Pilot. The five members combine collective experience in hard rock, alternative, reggae, blues and metal to create an overall 'American rock' sound. They're currently touring for their third album, Scene Around the Corner.

March 24: Taku Hirayama at Sector
Hong Kong-based DJ Taku Hirayama has been in the music business for 20 years. Over that time he's amassed an enormous, ever-growing list of collaborators and created his own musical platform 'Junktion.' He specializes in a chill, experimental electronic sound that "lets you dance with your eyes closed."

March 25-26: Healthy Movement Retreat
Christine and Ira will present two yoga workshops, two yoga classes and a motivational talk in Dapeng Peninsula's ID Town. Yogi Jana is also giving an acro yoga class. March 25: Martin Jensen at Pepper Club
Danish DJ Martin Jensen 'appeared out of nowhere' in 2015 with his single 'Si.' He's since made a string of hits that have won popularity in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Holland. This weekend, catch the award-winning DJ live at Pepper Club.

March 25: Barbarians and Librarians
No one can accuse The Terrace of being unoriginal. The upcoming Barbarians and Librarians theme party is surely the first of its kind in Shenzhen. The concept is simple: guys dress as barbarians, while the fairer sex wear librarian outfits. Free alcohol goes to the best costume.

March 25: Jungle Spirit Party and Kay C at Sector
Ever wish you could party-hop without switching venues? This Saturday night, you can do just that at Club Sector. First, there's a 'jungle spirit' bash featuring five different DJs. In another room drum 'n' bass DJ Kay C will be holding court, supported by the likes of 'MC Black Dragon,' aka local fan favorite Adrian Blackstock.

March 25: Wild West Hip Hop Party
This Wild West theme party features a bar whose waiters wear cowboy hats, a mechanical bull ride and...live hip hop? It may be an unconventional combo, but with food and drink specials plus games to play, there's definitely a lot of fun to be had.

March 26: Burning FIT Program at Hilton Shenzhen Futian

March 26: Papanosh at B10 Live
French group Papanosh, winner of the Jazz Migration competition in 2013, is ready to dazzle Shenzheners with their 'riotous style of jazz.' They are touring China for the first time this year as part of a 'French Music Rendez-Vous' event hosted by the French Embassy in China.
