Ladyfest Shanghai takes place this Saturday!

In honor of women everywhere, Ladyfest will take place in Shanghai this Saturday. The event, which was started in 2000 in Olympia, Washington, calls upon the community who supports diversity of skills and freedom of self-expression.

The vision of Ladyfest embraces sharing ideas through photography exhibits, experimental art, music, knowledge, literature, performances, comedy, spoken word, crafts and creativity in all forms. The purpose of the event it to create an open environment which fosters mutual inspiration, exchange of experiences and visions of femininity. 

So what's on for this Saturday?

Things kick off at Uptown Records from 1-8pm. The lineup keeps changing, but so far, this is what's been planned:

Discussion, stand-up comedy, experimental art space, stalls, record fair, workshops, bands, self-defense class, and also a reading of the book CUNT by Inga Muscio! They are expecting musicians (Brooke Palmer, Nonplus Color, Guoshen) experimental art performances (Basement 6, Ilumin8tors), skaters (Shanghai Roller Derby Girls), a photo booth (Dr Sketchy), art installations (Jessica Martinelli, Jennifer Childs), a self-defense workshop (Ema Withonem), literacy workshop (Calaya VanDreel), food stalls (Nom Nom Desserts, 390 Food, Amelia's, Isis Ka), information points (Shanghai Pride, Eden Ministry, Lean In Circle Shanghai), a performance by Aphia Campbell from Black is the Color of my Voice, fashion designers (Marie Vikstrom, Florence Qile Wang), spoken word (Janel Sullivan), comedy (Tammy Imig, Leia Luo, Alana Fu), painters (Liz Wilson), and photographers (Alina Negley, Echo Chen, Ines Brenton, Liz Wilson).

Later on, make your way to LOgO (10pm-late) for live music and art by LLND, followed by female DJs Eva of Destruction, Djacques, Elsie (Stockholm Syndrome, Punani Rocks), Velvet Robot (Double Happiness, Craft, Punani Rocks)..
