Kamasi Washington (aka the second coming of Pharoah Sanders) is coming to newly-opened Blue Note Shanghai this weekend for two nights. The American jazz saxophonist is taking in a two-city tour of the country, also stopping in Beijing before making his way to Shanghai.
Known for his spectacular tenor saxophone playing, Washington rose to fame in 2015 after the release of his stunning album The Epic, which garnered top spots on a number of end-of-year music lists. Washington went on to sign with British independent record label, Young Turks (also the home of FKA Twigs, The XX and Sampha) for the release of his follow-up album, Heaven and Earth, as well as a pair of EPs: Harmony of Difference and The Choice.
Needless to say we are excited to see the composer, band leader and saxophonist in Shanghai. In celebration, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to see Kamasi Washington live on September 14 at 10pm for one lucky reader.
