That's Shanghai takes a look at the best art exhibits on this week:

Robert Song: Ding Li's Solo Exhibition

Ding Li's background in plastic arts comes through strong in his first exhibition with the gallery. The digital aesthetic of his broad brushstrokes and use of spraypaint illustrate a contemporary painting style, designed for a contemporary audience and novel approach to portraiture.

Until Mar 2, Madein Gallery.

DISTANCE, VITESSE, TEMPS, FORMULE: Filipe Pantone

Reminiscent of Italian Futurism, this will be Pantone's first solo show in Shanghai. His works are bold, opticle spectacles that seamslessly work together in a space that seems designed for this kind of exhibition, with new pieces pressed specifically for the occasion.

Until Mar 16, Magda Danysz Gallery.

Clavicle: Xie Qi's Solo Exhibition

Appealing to phenomenology and the written works of philosopher Merleau-ponty, this collection of oil paintings from Beijing-based Xie Qi is the culmination of many years work. These dark, intimate depictions of the body come together in a dream-like series that are all at once universal and intensely personal.

Until Mar 9, Bank Gallery.

Matthew Day Jackson: New Landscape

In his solo exhibition at Qiao Space, American artist Matthew Day Jackson covers themes including humanity's relationship with nature, war, destruction and the faith we place in technological advancement, closing this weekend. Using non-traditional materials such as scorched wood, molten lead, precious metals, worn T-shirts, prosthetic limbs and posters, he creates visually stunning works that also raise social and ethical questions about the past and present.

Until Jan 21, Qiao Space.

Korean Abstract Art: Kim Whanki and Dansaekhwa

The first comprehensive exhibition of Korean abstract art to be held in China, this collection of vibrant, monochrome works provides a historical overview of the Dansaekhwa movement and post-war art in Korea. The artists represented in the exhibition aimed to create a distinct Asian modernism in response to Western cultural influence, and their works mirror the zeitgeist of the 20th century Korean society. Featured are seminal works by the late pioneer of Korean abstraction Kim Whanki, as well as paintings by Park Seo-Bo, Kwon Young-Woo and several others.

Until March 2, Powerlong Museum.

Thomas Hirschhorn: Re-Sculpt

The paradox of destruction and creation is at the center of Thomas Hirschhorn's first China show. The studio space is transformed into a workshop, as participants are invited to engage with its ever evolving contents. You can make, you can break and it's free entry either way.

Until Feb 17, Ming Contemporary Art Museum.
