After a six-year hiatus, the Gorillaz dropped their new album Humanz late last month, and while there’s no news on whether the world’s most famous virtual band will be performing in Shanghai to support the new album, their promotional ‘Gorillaz Spirit House’ is set to open at Jing An Kerry Centre on June 1.
Gorillas partnered with Sonos audio systems for the exhibit, and the whole thing is in part a big advertisement for their new home audio system, PLAYBASE, but also offers an immersive experience for fans of both the Gorillaz and cutting-edge audio-visual systems.
Gorillaz's video for 'Saturnz Barz'
The exhibit’s recreation of the creepy house from the Gorillaz's new 'Saturnz Barz' music video is missing from the Shanghai stop (bummer), but you’ll still be able to see the video and other installations on display at the spirit house with impressive audio and 'projection mapping' technology.
Spirit House has shown in New York, Amsterdam and Berlin, and runs in Shanghai from June 1 to June 4. The exhibit is free to enter, though you must RSVP for a time slot. The RSVP site opened last night and lasts until May 31; click here to book your spot and here for more info.
June 1-4, 11am-9pm, 1F North Building, Jing An Kerry Centre, see event listing.
