The 11th ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair opened its doors on November 9, and Marina Fedorova, Contemporary European artist of Russian origin, together with art platform Sputnik Partners, presented a wonderful exhibition "CosmoDreams – Nature" for Chinese audiences at Main Galleries unit, Booth D07. The exhibition ran until November 12.
The exhibition was a series of nature-inspired creations selected from Marina's large-scale art project "CosmoDreams," which combines the beauty of nature with rich imagery, and presents the artist's perception of nature and the universe through paintings, sculptures, and digital multimedia art at multiple levels. Marina personally came to China to paint on the exhibition wall and participate in the ART021 Forum to discuss the relationship between art, technology and nature with professors and art experts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
On the first day of the Preview for VIP, there were many visitors, many famous artists, collectors, curators, art organizations and media from all over the world came to visit the exhibition site and interviewed. The "CosmoDreams – Nature" booth was located at the entrance of the central hall, attracting many professionals and collectors in the field of art, and has also become a stopping place for many art lovers.
This exhibition features seven works created by Marina in the past three years: Peony, which blooms on the whole canvas; Moon Crocuses, which is full of spirituality; Moon Pandas, which is lovely in the greenhouse in space; Violet Mountains, which is surrounded by fairy mist; and the majestic In the Mountains and Ditch, which is mysterious and unpredictable. Together these works demonstrate the powerful energy and vitality of nature; the sculpture Birth echoes the paintings as a microcosm of nature itself.
The colorful "Moon Pandas" was the most popular, and the cute animals inspired great enthusiasm from the audience. Marina happily shared her artistic concepts, the stories behind the paintings and the hidden AR scenes with the audience, which was packed with art lovers who picked up their phones, scanned each painting with the "CosmoDreams" WeChat mini program, and watched the unique AR videos. The exhibition was also equipped with VR equipment, placed on the heads of the audience, who were excited to "enter" the marvelous "CosmoDreams" fantasy journey, with a burst of admiration from the scene.
Using digital tools as a medium, Marina goes beyond the flat paintings to continue the story inside the paintings. The interweaving of painting, sculpture and multimedia elements brought the audience an unprecedented sensory experience.
Marina Federova and "CosmoDreams"
Marina Fedorova is a European Artist of Russian Origin, based in Germany. She works in large format oils and specializes in the Alla Prima direct method, where she quickly layers colors before the paint dries, capturing the moment of inspiration, which results in a richly layered, free-flowing body of work. Her work is often heavily influenced by twentieth-century futuristic philosophies, delving into themes of the future, nature, and humanity.
At the same time, she is not only limited to traditional media, but also constantly tries to combine traditional art with emerging digital technologies, including video, interactive installations, AR, VR, 3D-printed sculptures and so on, which demonstrates her infinite imagination and outstanding artistic expression.
Since 2017, Marina has been working on Cosmodreams, a large-scale art exhibition project in which she builds an imaginary world with the universe as the backdrop. The whole project is divided into seven units, which become a complete story: Nature, Metropolia, Patriotism, Life on Earth, Life in Space, Legacies, and Deep Space.
With her infinite imagination and various artistic methods, Marina shows the magnificence of the universe and the desire of human beings to explore the unknown, and deeply explores the issues of scientific and technological development, environmental protection, the future of mankind, and the power of women. "CosmoDream" awakens our deepest dreams and inspires us to think and create, and to shape a better future together.
Cosmodreams has already begun its world tour, having been exhibited at St. Petersburg Erarta Museum (2020), Dubai Design Week (November 2022), Art Dubai (March 2022), Beijing Asia Digital Art Exhibition (October 2022), and Art021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair (November 2022).
This year, "CosmoDream" returned to ART021, inviting the audience to enter a colorful world where reality and fantasy are intertwined from the perspective of "nature.”
