Hockey
Hands bring together some of the finest in Shanghai’s folk music scene
like Tribes of Asaph to raise funds for ther fll Hockey Hands program.
The night ends with a midnight screening of the final concert by Canadian rock legends, The Tragically Hip,
who retired last week after completing one last triumphant tour
following the annoucement of lead singer Gord Downie’s battle with
cancer.

Aug 27: Dumbfoundead
STD
presents the Argentian-born, South Korean rhymer who emerged out of Los
Angeles’ fierce battle rap scene. He’s since wowed at global rap
championships, toured the world with Korean icons Epik High and counts
Drake among his famous fans.

Aug 27-28: Booshkabaash
Entering its seventh year, the music festival takes over Shanghai Centre for a weekend of live music complemented with local popups covering everything from food and drink to art and design. Haroula Rose (pictured above) and The Bollands headline while Shanghai stalwarts Studio 188, RTM, Something Careless, Redic and the Stormriders, Amazonia Big Band, HRJ Trio and Hanqi.

Aug 27-28: Zebra Music Festival
The
seventh edition of this Shanghai summer tradition goes down at Jiangwan
Stadium boasting a pair of bonafide Mandopop stars headlining in Coco
Lee and Jolin Tsai. As always, music is just part of the fun with a

Aug 30-31: Simple Plan
The
Canadian pop punk favorites return to Shanghai after two past sold-out
trips. They’ll be celebrating their new album Taking One for the Team,
which adds new musical flourishes, like the reggae styled single
‘Singing in the Rain’ to their anthemic sound that has produced hits
like ‘Addicted’ and ‘I’d Do Anything.

Chunyang Yao and Soundspade
Lijiang born composer Chunyang Yao studied theory at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and has recently released an album inspired by her ancestral Nakhi roots. Expect an evening of drones with Bacon Soundspade supporting.

Advantage Lucy
