My review is based on a 3 week intensive training (2 hours daily M-F) that I did in Nov 2021. All the lessons have been very helpful to me to have more adult thoughtful conversations with local friends as the vocabulary that is taught is professional work and culturally related. We used the nihao cafe daily -- this platform is sophisticated, clean, and easy to use. Nihaocafe also makes it easy for classes to stay structured and standardized across all students while being able to veer into rabbit holes about Chinese culture, society, work related topics. I want to give a extra shout-out to one of my teachers Ivan -- he knows how to make the classes extremely interesting and encourages me to make mini speeches about topics that I would love to discuss but did not have the vocab arsenal to do so until now! I always leave classes feeling stimulated to read and discuss more about Chinese culture with friends and family. However, my understanding that some of the teachers have not stayed at
I've been very content with That's Mandarin as a school for learning Chinese. I took 6 weeks of intensive study and now supplement my learning with a private class once a week.
The curriculum is very strong, following a sensible linear path with links to cultural information, as well as exposure to a variety of accents to develop good listening skills. The nihaocafe platform is very simple to use and as it keeps a record of previous classes, makes it very easy to review from.
The tutors are very professional and can break down concepts well, as well as tackle any gramatical misconceptions I have.
On the whole, I'd highly recommend studying with That's Mandarin.
