We've seen some crazy things go down on the roads of China, but now internet giant Baidu is allegedly muscling in on the action. While Google develops driverless cars over in the West, here in China unmanned autonomous bicycles are set to be the next big thing.
According to Techweb, we can eagerly anticipate a prototype of the world’s first unmanned bike by the end of this year.
The bike is said to be able to identify its owner, navigate obstacles and run on its own using an electric motor. With these revolutionary wheels, owners will allegedly be able to enjoy perks such as sending bikes to pick their kids up from school while the blind and disabled will have a whole new avenue of transportation opened up to them.
Beijing-based Baidu, however, has not yet officially confirmed the bike’s development, and the jury is still out on whether this is an example of automotive genius or simply death on wheels, but surely the key question on everyone’s lips right now is, “can this really be serious?”
