Hulk and Wu Lei scored twice each as Shanghai SIPG crushed Shanghai Shenhua 6-1 at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday evening, completing the double over their bitter city rivals and closing the gap on Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande to six points.
Carlos Tevez was on the score sheet for Shenhua, despite being branded too fat to play by new boss Wu Jingui, who only took over at the start of the week after Gus Poyet resigned from his position as head coach.
After a goalless first half, the game exploded around the hour mark. Hulk opened the scoring in the 56th minute, with Wu Lei and Odil Ahmedov adding goals in quick succession to put SIPG in command.
Tevez pulled one back for Shenhua, only for Wu Lei to add his second in the 63rd minute to make it five goals in just seven minutes of play.
The goalfest was not over though, with Oscar and Hulk scoring in the final 15 minutes to give SIPG their second five-goal win over Shenhua in three seasons, after the 5-0 drubbing of the blues in 2015.
After defeating Guangzhou Evergrande in an epic AFC Champions League quarter-final last week, Shanghai SIPG's next game at the Shanghai Stadium is the AFC Champions League semi-final against Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan next Wednesday, September 27 with an 8pm kick off.
