Ling Long

No a la carte orders here: Ling Long only offers five, six or seven courses, complete with wine pairings. The creative re-imagining of Chinese dishes and exquisite plating are delightful, and the chef’s techniques and artsy flair certainly show there is potential for Ling Long to become a popular fine-dining venue in Sanlitun.

Shyno
Image via Curtis Dunn for That’s
The atmosphere at Shyno is sharp and clean, almost sterile, reminiscent of many hip Tokyo eateries. The food menu is divided into starters, snacks, shyno, rolls, meatballs, signature dishes, greens and desserts. All very streamlined and chic, but all rather perplexing and opaque. Still, the food is solid gourmet fare and it has the potential to be a great new date spot.

Amid + Monopoly
Image via Andrew Braun for That’s
Opened in September, Amid feels like a bar on the Bund in Shanghai (don’t hate us), with hip art and intimate seating catering for everything from date nights to business drinks. Walk towards the back and you’ll find a hidden bar. One click of a button and the door slides open to reveal Monopoly – a dedicated whiskey bar where people can be people and enjoy a stiff glass of the hard stuff.

That One Place

That One Place (not to be confused
with The Other Place) is keeping it casual with cheap drinks and pleather
seating. There’s not much to note about the ambience, but we will say this
– the drinks are stiff.

Laboratory of Sweet Potato
Image via Valerie Osipov/That’s
The white interior of Laboratory of Sweet Potato is practically empty, aside from an ordering counter, a few ovens and a painted wall (featuring a sweet potato scientist rocking neon-lit lab glasses, who looks to be experimenting with various liquids of some sort). The point here is this: It’s all about the starchy root vegetable.

Oye Bar

Another Xingfucun newbie (well, sort of) is Oye Bar. Replacing the recently departed Charlie
Chaplin Bar, the cocktail lounge keeps the same vibes and decor, with a menu switch-up and
name change.

The Sweet Spot+

Whipped up by chefs from China World Hotel, The Sweet Spot+ presents a fuss-free experience of balanced meals in a cheery atmosphere. Beyond the cake counter at the front is a juice counter, salad counter and bread counter, separated by long tables with tall stools, with more low seating in the back.
