With the new power bank regulations officially taking effect on June 28, passengers flying within China must now pay close attention to what kind of power banks they carry.
Devices without a valid CCC certification (so-called '3C'), with unclear labeling, or listed in manufacturer recall notices are strictly prohibited on domestic flights.

In response to rising questions, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) has released a detailed FAQ covering everything from disposal options to what counts as compliant.
Here’s what you need to know:
Q: What kind of power banks are now banned from being brought onboard?
A: Devices that fall into the following categories are not allowed onboard:
No 3C certification mark
Unclear or unreadable 3C labeling
Listed in official recalls (Check on the Consumer Product Recall section of the State Administration for Market Regulation website.)
Q: What can I do if my power bank isn’t allowed on board?
A: Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport offers a free 7-day temporary storage service at the end of Check-in Island B, Level 4.
You’ll receive a receipt to retrieve your device.
After 7 days, unclaimed items will be treated as voluntarily discarded.
Q: Can I mail my power bank home instead?
A: Unfortunately, the on-site courier (SF Express) currently does not accept power bank shipments.
It’s best to check with other delivery services in advance.
Q: My power bank brand was recalled, but my device isn’t part of the recall batch. Can I still bring it?
A: As long as it has a valid 3C mark and meets capacity requirements, you’re good.
Devices under 100Wh can be carried freely.
Devices between 100Wh and 160Wh need airline approval.
Maximum: two units per person.
Q: Do I need to check my camera batteries too?
A: No. The new policy only applies to power banks.
All other batteries and devices will be inspected according to existing rules.
Q: What about international flights departing from Shenzhen?
A: This new regulation only applies to domestic flights.
International and regional flights follow the original standards.
Q: Any other reminders for travelers?
A: Yes!
Foreign-made power banks are not subject to 3C requirements.
Devices with reverse charging capabilities will continue to follow previous inspection guidelines.
Q: What happens to power banks that are voluntarily discarded?
A: They are collected by airport staff and handed over to certified hazardous waste handlers to ensure safe disposal.
Before your next flight, double-check your power bank.
It might just save your trip!
