Salt & Talk Successfully Hosts Charity Toy Drive

What began as a simple initiative to bring a gift along to Christmas dinner turned into a month-long charity toy drive for Salt & Talk in Shekou. Community members and customers enthusiastically donated toys, clothes, games, books, shoes and more to the Sea World restaurant last month. Proprietor Tony Zhang teamed up with Dr. Stowe, a teacher in Mission Hills to organize and promote the toy drive. On Christmas Day, Zhang and Dr. Stowe went to donate the toys to a special needs school in Longhua for underprivileged youth. Toys and gifts were also donated to a special needs community center of the Shenzhen Project Care Foundation the week after. As for the gently used items, they will be donated to a rural area of China in the following weeks.

Special thanks to Terraneh and Sophia, who volunteered to help wrap all the gifts, Kay Edwards for spearheading the initiative and Shenzhen Women’s International Club (SWIC) for their generous donations. The top three donations were from Catharina, Rosita and Sarah – thank you again!

Say cheese!

In the future Salt & Talk will be partnering with the Shenzhen Project Care Foundation to start an in-house charity initiative. One table will be covered with a red tablecloth, and patrons who wish to be seated at that table will have a portion of proceeds from their meal go towards Shenzhen Project Care Foundation, a non-profit organization.
