Xiamen indie band Migo break out on their national tour this month. Taking in the sights and sounds of Canton, this low-key three piece rarely go out on tour but are stating that this sojourn around the country has more than a bit of ritualism about it. Their most recent release 'Mama Bu Rang Wo Tan Lian Ai' incorporates pulsating guitar strings and generously bouncy rhythms.

Cook’s particular style of music takes in deep house, dub, techno and minimalism in the pursuit of asking and answering new musical questions about culture and identity. Kaohsiung in Southern Taiwan is known for its easy lifestyle and seaside charm. This group of musicians, Shallow Levee, bring that gentle temperament to their music. Their first release, Tang Yu Hai, laps around that with laid-back guitars, a soft-spoken, female vocal lead and, despite the frequent heavy guitar solos, the sense of softness that pervades their music always rises to the top.

Sun, Sept 30: Gabrielle @ Musibase Bar

Autumn is approaching and what better way to remind yourself that, outside of the humid soup that is Guangdong, seasons actually do exist in the rest of the world by catching some misty, rain-soaked folk music. Gabrielle incorporates a variety of instruments in her music, most notably the piano, which she can play to within an inch of its life. Her introspective music is the perfect backdrop for a romantic date this weekend.
