As the most powerful typhoon yet this year heads towards South China, the Shenzhen North railway station has put ticket sales for the Xiamen route on hold starting this Thursday (September 14).
Oncoming storm Talim, which has the potential to turn into a super typhoon, is projected to pass through northern Taiwan and make landfall in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces late Thursday or early Friday. The Shenzhen-Xiamen railway route is expected to see blustery winds and heavy rains as Talim approaches Chinese mainland
For updates on ticket sales, passengers are advised to check the Shenzhen North Train Station Weibo, the Guangzhou Railway ('广州铁路') WeChat and 12306.cn.
Talim is the 18th typhoon of the year, and probably not the last. Just today, China's National Meteorological Center warned that a tropical depression 205 kilometers to the east of Manila may develop into a full-blown typhoon.
If that's the case, South China may suffer its most damaging bout of typhoon weather yet this year, although Guangdong (fingers crossed) will likely escape the worst of it.
