Typhoon Hato unleashed a well-documented bout of destruction across the Pearl River estuary last week, causing death, flooding and, in Macau, a massive power outage. The storm’s strong winds also caused a 10-meter tall tree to fall on a motorcyclist in the Guangdong city of Foshan.

The unlucky man was waiting at a red light, along with another motorcyclist and the driver of what appears to be a motorized tricycle, when the tree’s roots gave out, causing it to topple over.

"I didn't have a hunch. All of a sudden I got a blow over my head, and it really hurt,” said the man, Chen Junyan, according to a Mirror report. "I got stuck in [sic] the motorcycle and couldn't move."

A group of people, including a passing police officer, were able to free Chen and transport him to a Foshan hospital. He has received treatment for minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
