Tired of hearing about the damage wrought by Typhoon Hato earlier this week? Well, then we have bad news for you: another typhoon is barreling towards Guangdong province.
Typhoon Pakhar, the 14th typhoon of the season, was roughly 310 kilometers northeast of Manila last night at midnight and is expected to bring wind and rain to coastal areas of Guangdong on Sunday, when the storm is predicted to make landfall.
The storm’s name is a variation of the Laotian name for the Irrawaddy dolphin, ‘paka,’ according to the Guangdong Meteorological Center.
The announcement of Pakhar’s impending arrival in South China comes just days after Typhoon Hato slammed Guangdong’s Pearl River Delta region, shuttering schools, killing well over a dozen people and causing transportation mayhem.
Hato also temporarily robbed Macau of power, resulting in high-end hotels actually turning customers away.
The team at That’s is monitoring the situation closely and will report closures and transportation delays if – or when – they are announced, so check back regularly for updates.
