27 high-speed rail routes at the Shenzhen North Railway Station were temporarily suspended on Thursday due to flooding in Hunan province, Shenzhen Daily reported today.
All railway services passing between Changsha and Miluo East Railway Station, both in Hunan, have been stopped for the time being. Routes going through Hubei province have also been affected. Before heading out, passengers should check to make sure their trains haven't been canceled.
Shenzhen North Railway Station maintains a Weibo account that's updated regularly, and the Chinese Railway Customer Service Center has a hotline (12306) and handy train status checker.
Customers can refund or change their tickets at no additional cost within 30 days of their purchase. Those who bought tickets on the Chinese Railway Customer Service Center website can get a refund online if they haven't picked up their physical tickets yet. Those who have can go to the return windows at any train station for their refunds.
Flooding in Xinshao County, Hunan
The recent heavy rains in Hunan led to the flooding of a tunnel on the Guangzhou-Beijing high-speed rail route. Service on 100 trains around the country has been stopped while Guangzhou Railway Corporation staff work to pump water out of the tunnel.
Recently, flooding in Hunan and other parts of South China led to 17 deaths and the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people. In one part of Ezhou, Hubei province, 10-meter-high waters submerged everything in sight except for a lone, 700-year-old pavilion.
