O Canada! Something, something, home and native land! Something something command!
July 1 is Canada Day, something we know better than the country's national anthem. Want to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada's federation? We've rounded up four options below.
1. Mengma Lounge Bar
If you're interested in meeting up with university graduates from Canada, this party is for you – it's also for you if you want to throw down the cash today, as you only have a few more hours to buy tickets to the event, which expects to see 50 to 70 people. With a focus on University of Toronto alumni, the party will see an unlimited supply of 'select' beer or cocktails and light snacks. Red or white clothing encouraged.
Sat Jul 1, 8.30pm-12am; RMB120 today only. Mengma Lounge Bar.
2. The Snake Pit
This one is a double party: Canada Day and America's Independence day will be honored at this event, which will see free admission if you bring your favorite American or Canadian dish to share. Burgers, poutine, maple bacon and Quebecois meat pie are all on the menu and kids under 12 eat for free. Proceeds will go to the Sunshine Academy Orphanage.
Sun Jul 2, 2pm; RMB100 non-members, RMB80 members. The Snake Pit.
3. The Terrace
This family-friendly event starts mid-afternoon and promises cotton candy, kids games and a clown – along with free hot dogs for the first 50 people to arrive. Adults can enjoy drink specials at the event, which is also meant to honor the United States' July 4 Independence Day.
Sat Jul 1, 2-6pm; free entry. The Terrace.
4. The Brew Bar & Bistro
Celebrate Canada Day at Shenzhen’s favorite Canadian hangout: The Brew. The first 60 people to arrive wearing something Canadian will receive a free, authentic Canadian caesar, complete with a strip of bacon (BOOM!). Food and drink deals will be available on poutine, beaver tails (with ice cream), Canadian pizza, caesars and beer!
Sat Jul 1, 7pm-late; free entry. The Brew Bar & Bistro.
None of these events seem up to snuff? You could always catch the train to Guangzhou for the epic Canada Day Rooftop Party… (Check first to make sure there are still tickets, obviously.)
