Two buses in Foshan’s Nanhai District were hit by explosions on Wednesday afternoon, leaving six people injured.

The first blast occurred at 3.37pm, according to Sixth Tone, breaking the vehicle’s windows and leaving four commuters with minor injuries.

A second device was detonated at 4.14pm on another bus, wounding two.

According to a post on the local government’s Weibo page this morning, police arrested a 22-year-old male in connection with the blasts. He was apprehended at around 11pm last night at a Nanhai rental flat.

The man, surnamed Liang, reportedly plead guilty and told authorities that he operated alone. No comment has been made about a possible motive.

Liang is presumed to have hidden the explosive devices in the buses’ garbage cans.

"[I saw] a person wearing a mask and black clothing throw something into the bin when getting on the bus. People got off the bus after one station and then the bus exploded,” The Beijing News cited a netizen as stating.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
