Liu couldn’t catch a break.
First she wanted time off from her job at a Shenzhen factory, but the boss said no, Global Times reports.
So she quit. Then discovered she was no longer allowed to stay in the factory dormitory.
Desperate for somewhere to to stay on October 23 around 4pm, Liu turned to the authorities.
She went to Shenzhen’s Longgang Public Security Bureau in Pinghu and claimed she had murdered her husband—using a knife to kill him while he was drunk in Longhua District—reasoning that the police would give her a place to sleep overnight.
But the police didn’t believe her. She wouldn’t give the address where the supposed murder had happened.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the factory, the police determined that Liu had not murdered her husband.
But Liu finally got what she wanted: a place to stay for the night—plus nine more nights with a 10-day (non-criminal) detention.
Liu’s husband is said to be alive and well in Hubei, waiting for his wife to get out of detention so she can return and sign divorce papers.
This case echoes an incident That’s reported in August when a drunk man called the police to report he had murdered his wife, in the hopes the authorities would help him track her down.
