Designed around the concept of “respect for the old while simultaneously transforming into something new,” Ôpartment brand founder, Mr. Sun Fei, states that:
“Every project of Ôpartment is based on a historical building and fully integrates local culture, allowing guests to delve deep into Eastern traditional aesthetics.
“All spaces incorporate Western contemporary elements, resulting in a modern design that creates a home away from home.”

Adhering to the principle of 'renovating instead of replacing,' Ôpartment preserves the antique French-style exterior while striking a balance between old and new to showcase architectural contemporary aesthetics.
Why Ôpartment?
The ‘Ô’ in the name Ôpartment is derived from Old French – meaning “home” – that, when coupled with the English word “apartment,” symbolizes what the Ôpartment brand stands for.

Ôpartment Building History
Erected in the 1920s, the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel was the result of Shanghai’s emerging hotel industry. Mr. Xu Qiaosheng, founder of Liantai Printing Company, along with several partners invested RMB200,000 to jointly build the hotel, which ultimately opened on June 10, 1923. Consisting of more than 100 guests rooms, the hotel's opening room price was between just RMB3.5-7 per night!

Then, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the hotel was renamed as the second guesthouse for the Shanghai Police District, which was only open to internal staff.
In the late 1980s, it began to open up again to the general public.

Now the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, a century-old building, has been through the ebbs and flows of time, yet
still stands firm at Shanghai’s beating heart!

Its walls and beams tell stories of a different era, one of luxury, of class, of poems and dances. Now, it has been reborn once again as the Ôpartment, a reinterpretation of modern luxury and classic elegance.
