BFC Christmas Market is Back... Open Air Ice Rink & All!

The Bund Finance Center (BFC) Christmas Market has become a Shanghai institution and one of the highlights of the year. So great news! It is ringing the holiday bells again with a new theme this year – Ice Dream – running from December 24, 2022 through January 2, 2023.

This year the key focus is a 300-square-meter Manhattan Times Square-style open-air ice rink.

But that is certainly not all, there will also be immersive interactive performances and colorful market stalls selling all your favorite holiday delights and surprises aplenty!

Rink on the Bund

At the heart of the BFC Christmas Market is the BFC Bund Ice Skating Rink, known as 'Rink on the Bund.' Hugely popular for all ages last year, it is back, bigger and better than ever before.

This brand new and upgraded 300-square-meter professional ice rink is the perfect way to enjoy the magical yuletide season, be it in sunshine or under the sparkling evening lights, and will be open until February 26.

Speaking of twinkling lights, when night falls, the 13-meter-high giant golden Christmas tree, atop the Nutcracker Magical Castle – as well as the romantic carousel and Christmas Market itself – are lit up in a colorful displays that brings Christmas joy to all those present.

With the Bund skyline as a backdrop, the dazzling holiday light display at the BFC Christmas Market is a must-visit on everyone’s holiday bucket list.

Taking it a step further, the BFC is also showcasing champion ice skating dancers to put on regular performances for market guests. From now through January 2, interpretative performances such as Roaming in Snow and Joy Land will be performed regularly.

Simultaneously, the Radio on the Bund also launched for the first time this year, inviting participants to put a song request for a lover, friend or family member. 

And make sure to look out for the immersive interactive drama performance of Time of Joy, which invited the audience to follow the magical girl into a mysterious parallel world and embark on a magnificent adventure.

This year’s BFC Christmas Market on the Bund, pays homage to Nordic Christmas markets, creating a sense of festive romance with traditional yuletide delicacies and exciting interactive items from all over the world.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Santa Claus will also make surprise visits to the market to distribute Christmas sweets to visitors, further enhancing the feeling of living in a festive fairytale.

For those with little ones, the BFC Christmas The Nutcracker Fun Day will see children transformed into ‘Nutcracker soldiers’ and partake in Christmas-themed games on the third floor of the shopping mall.

Also on the third floor, there will be mini Christmas tree and wreath making activities, along with a parent-child flea market. Children can act as gift elves and run their own shops to experience the fun of exchanging gifts.

Kyoto House Ceramic Art Exhibition

Starting from December 26, Kyoto House will launch the Yuan as Vessel – Special Exhibition of Chinese and Japanese Ceramic Art to share the history and culture of ceramic art with visitors.

The collection space brings together more than a hundred works by 40 Chinese and Japanese ceramic artists, taking guests on a wonderful journey of Chinese and Japanese cultural integration.

The exhibition is divided into three chapters: 'All Things are Born,' 'Explore the Old and Absorb the New,' 'Return to the Original,' as well as two special presentations by the artists entitled 'Seeing Utensils as Usual' and 'Utensils and Soil.'

Perusing the collection, the audience can read up on the individual artworks one by one to learn more about the artist's creative process, while being immersed in the cultural atmosphere of ceramic aesthetics.

High-End Fashion

As a fashion landmark in Shanghai, the BFC has continuously optimized the mix of shopping options, introducing many international high-end brands to meet the diversified shopping needs of the fashion-conscious Shanghai population.

Following the launch of the world's first Maybach City Brand Center and the Christmas-themed Penhailigons limited-time store, Sergio Rossi's new boutique has also landed at the BFC, inviting Shanghai hipsters to explore a variety of shoe designs and ever-changing outfits.

Right now, New York-based fashion brand Theory and French high-end fashion brand BALMAIN are also setting off a fashion craze in the BFC, unlocking the sense of luxury in fall and winter with exquisite items; French fashion brand Chloe will also kick off at the BFC, bringing consumers a romantically Gallic yet casually elegant shopping experience.

At the same time, the Bund Fashion Company, an exquisite women's social venue at the BFC, makes an appearance on the second floor of the mall, cooperating with many desirable brands, including Ted Baker, ZUKKA PRO, TU, and more, providing high-quality clothing choices for Shanghai lux consumers.

Additionally, the pop-up store of BFC fashion ambassador and prestigious Xiaohongshu blogger Rita Wang's personal brand Tart-Tart also returns for a limited time with Christmas-themed decorations, enriching consumers' Christmas wardrobes with festive hats.
